Anthony Lo Buono

April 25, 1928 — June 13, 2016

Anthony D. “Tony” LoBuono, 88, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016 while residing at Westover Retirement Center. He was born in 1928, the first-born son of Donato and Nunziata (Procaccino) LoBuono. Tony was a 1946 graduate of Hamilton Catholic and a strong supporter of its successor, Badin High School, both athletics and scholastics. He went to work as a teenager at the Wehr Dairy, across the street from his family’s home on East Avenue, Hamilton, and was fond of the hustle and bustle of the dairy business in that day. He was mentored by the Froelkes and Piersons and eventually was the chief ice cream maker. His country called him to duty in 1950 during the Korean Conflict where he proudly served in the US Army’s 8226TH COMMUNICATIONS GHQ LONG LINES SIGNAL GROUP. He earned the Korean Service Medal, with three Bronze Stars. On May 8, 1954, Tony married the love of his life, Lillian R. Tenore, at St. Veronica Church, Hamiton. Tony went on to work at Armco Steel for a short period of time and retired from W.H. Kiefaber Company. Tony enjoyed his retirement years and was very active with friends and family, particularly his grandchildren, Christina, Maggie and Drew. He also adored his great-grandchildren, Mac and Mia Munafo. Tony loved a good time, a dry (really dry !) martini, a good drummer and Dixieland Music. He was happiest at family gatherings when his children and all of his nieces and nephews and their families were present. Fortunately he was in good health when the last one was held at Christmas time 2015. He was preceded in death by his dear Lillian in 2013, and by all of his siblings: Lucy Biondo, Alvira Roberto, Antionette Spadafora and his baby brother Joe LoBuono and their spouses. He is survived by son, Anthony R. “Rick” (Jennifer) LoBuono and daughter, Marianne (Steve) Honchell; grandchildren, Christina LoBuono Munafo and her husband, Joseph, Maggie Evers and Drew Evers. And by his loving nieces, nephews and families. Memorials may be directed to Badin High School or to the “Roots and Wings” fund of St. Ann School, Hamilton. Please no flowers. Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM Friday, June 17 at St. Ann Church, Lindenwald with Father Larry Tharp celebrant. Friends and family may gather at the church from 9:30 AM. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Lindenwald. The LoBuono family extends their thanks to the compassionate staff at Westover. Online condolences to www.colliganfuneralhome.com
