Benedict “Benny” Anthony Vito Rotundo, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was 85 years old. He had always prayed to live long enough to see his twin granddaughters’s, Nikki and Casey, 18th birthday and his wish was fulfilled as he passed away with them at his side on their 18th birthday. Benny was born in Hamilton, Ohio on May 23, 1925 to Mary Carmella “Mildred” (Delligatto) and Domenick Rotundo. He was a 1943 graduate of Hamilton Catholic. Benny proudly served in World War II in England and France. After returning from war he met and married the love of his life, Joy McRoberts on November 15, 1947 and she preceded him in death on December 7, 1994. Benny was employed by General Motors at their Fairfield Fisher Body Plant for 40 years, retiring in 1989. Benny was not defined by his work but for his love and devotion to family, love of golf and skilled games of chance.After retirement , Benny could focus on his best job, being the world’s greatest grandfather to all his grandchildren and acting as supervisor at his son’s drive thru. Benny was a lifelong member of the Italian American Society of which his father, Domenick, was a founding member. Benny was also a member of the Eagles. Benny never met a stranger and was loved by all. Benny leaves behind four children; sons, Rick, Jerry (Tina) , and Nick Rotundo and daughter, Debby Harrison; eleven grandchildren, Mika (Tim) Renneker , Krissie Rotundo Marianne Rotundo , Jeff Risinger , Bryan Risinger , Alison Rotundo Celia Rotundo Jenna Rotundo, Nikki Rotundo, Casey Rotundo and Michael Rotundo Jr. ; six great grandchildren, Christopher, Hannah, Logan, Ian, Tad and May; one sister, Joanne Mattingly , sister-in-law, Hope Fowler and lifelong best friend, Charlie Shanks. Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Domenick and Mildred Rotundo; wife, Joy Rotundo; brother-in-law, Bob Mattingly; Aunt Anna Kelly and Uncle Mike Delligatto. A special thank you to Dr. ted Hunter, Karen Anzel and Hospice of Cincinnati for the wonderful care they gave Benny. Prayer service will be 9:15 AM Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Colligan Funeral Home, 437 S. 3rd Street. A 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Ann Church. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Cincinnati.
