Everett L. Jung M.D., passed away November 4, 2017. He leaves his loving wife, Anita, daughter, Elizabeth Prall (Robert), son, Bill Jung (Gina) and step sons, Will and Mark Weisman (Kimberly). Ev had nine grandchildren: Matthew and Sarah Prall Wuest (Robin), Zachary and Ellie Weisman, Christian, Andrew, Daniel and Laura Caroline Jung, and Gavin Weisman; he also leaves 3 great-grandchildren.
Born in Higginsville, Missouri in 1928, one of five children, Ev got his undergraduate and Medical Doctor degrees from Washington University in St. Louis. He served his country honorably as Captain/Surgeon, United States Army, repairing returning Korean War veterans. Ev settled in Hamilton after service, and founded the Hamilton Orthopedic Clinic.
Ev enjoyed, with Anita, a wide circle of friends. He was a “people person” and although his passing leaves many loved-ones and friends grieving, Ev would not want any sadness or “moping” at his departure. We have precious memories of this bright, friendly (and fun-loving), wonderful man.
Along with the fun pastimes with friends and family, Ev served his community. He was team physican for Miami University athletic teams, was the first team physican for the Cincinnati Bengals, and was Assistant Professor of Surgery at Wright State University School of Medicine, as well as Adjunct Professor of Physical Education and Health at Miami University. In recognition of Ev’s 30-year service to Miami, that university conferred upon him an Honorary Doctorate Degree in 1977, and he delivered the graduation commencement address at Miami graduation. Miami University also conferred upon Ev its “Star Award,” for outstanding service and support to students. Ev’s fellow citizens elected him to multiple terms on the State of Ohio School Board, and he served as President of that body in his last term. Ev also served locallya as Commissioner of The Butler County Metropolitan Housing Authority.
Ev’s passing will leave a hole in our hearts that can only be filled by poignant memories and fondness for this dear man. Visitation will be held this Friday at 10:30 a.m. to noon, followed by a short service, at Colligan Funeral Home, 437 S. Third St., Hamilton, OH 45011. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests friends might consider a donation to Fort Hamilton Hospital, McCullough-Hyde Hospital or Shriner’s Hospital, Cincinnati to honor Dr. Jung.
