Jack S. Carr, age 88, of Hamilton, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012 at home. The son of Sam and Mary (Heath) Carr, Jack was born in Hamilton, Ohio on August 31, 1923. On March 31, 1951, he was united in marriage with Geraldine (Gerry) Feltz. Jack was a life long member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He served during WW II in the U.S. Army in the 243rd Engineer Combat Battalion. He was a 1948 graduate of Miami University with a B.A. in Business. After college, he taught in the Hamilton School District. His business background led to his founding of the Modern Appraisal Company which was his occupation for more than 45 years. He also taught real estate appraisal for 12 years at Miami U. of Hamilton. While in college he was introduced to the Campus Owls, a group of accomplished musicians, widely known in the midwest. This association led to a life long interest in the performance and preseravation of Big Band music. It was through this passion where he developed the strong friendships with his fellow musicians and their families. For over a half century, Jack entertained thousands, both young and not so young, at the concerts in and around the Hamilton-Fairfield area. He is survived by one brother, Dr. James R. Carr of Hamilton; sister-in-law, Eileen Leffler of Oxford; brother-in-law, Don Fuerst of Cincinnati; four sons, Richard of St. Croix, V.I., Sam (Eva) of Hamilton, Robert (Sonia) of Reily and John of Springdale; one daughter Mary Ann (Dave) Crease of Middletown; 8 grandchildren, Julie (Eric) Hickey, Austin Carr, Jacquie Carr, Andrew Carr, Jason (Christy) Carr, Alex (Amber) Carr, Margot (Zack) Stein and Michelle Cox; 7 great grandchildren, Teagan and Luke Hickey, Emma, David and Jason Carr, Bailey Carr and Ben Stein. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine F. Carr, sister-in-law, Ann Carr and daughter-in-law, Patricia Carr. Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 15th at the Colligan Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Thursday, February 16 th at St. Peter in Chains Church.
