MALONE
John Patrick “Pat”, age 88, a life long resident of Hamilton, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Hospice of Hamilton. Born July 3, 1922, the son of John Gordon and Helen (Wolke) Malone , Pat was the oldest of three brothers .Graduated from Hamilton High School in 1940. Entered the United States Army and served in World War II from 1941 to 1946 and received a Honorable Discharge from the service in 1946. On September 10, 1947 , he married Helen Louise “Patty” Irwin. They have been married for almost 63 years. Pat and Patty ,as they were called , have three children: Dennis (Mary) Malone, Jim (Julie) Malone and Mary Karen (Jeff) Eyl: grandchildren, Mike (Joey) Malone, Joe (Meagan) Malone, Amy (Jerry) Townsend, Bryan Malone, Chris, Sarah, Adam and Nicholas Eyl and six great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Terry Malone, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen: brother, Richard “Dick” Malone ; Dick’s wife, Ruth and Terry’s wife, Betty. Pat was a member of St. Mary Parrish in downtown Hamilton until it closed and then became a member of St. Ann Parrish in the Lindenwald neighborhood of Hamilton. Pat and Patty bought and lived in the same house in Lindenwald, raising their children and grandchildren since October 1947. Pat worked a brief time at Western States of Hamilton before going to work for General Motors. Pat worked for General Motors “Fisher Body” from 1947 to his retirement in 1984 in the payroll department. After retiring from GM, he taught driver’s training for Lou Florio and worked for the Hamilton Safety Council. Pat was a 25 year member of the Butler County High School Football Officials Association and refereed many area high schoo football games during his career. Pat was very active with Hamilton Catholic and Badin Football with his brother, Terry. John was involved for many years with the Lindenwald Little League and Babe Ruth League Baseball and was one of the association board members when the leagues were moved from Hamilton’s Peck’s Addition to Hamilton’s Joyce Park in the early 1960’s.He also coached the West Side Federal Phillies, Lindenwald Little League Teams and the Coca-Cola White Sox, Lindenwald Babe Ruth Teams. Pat was a lifetime member of the BPOE (Elk’s) #93 and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved sports, including football, baseball and golf, once scoring a hole -in-one at Hamilton’s Potters Golf Course. Pat and Patty also loved taking the family to Gatlinburg, Tennessee (Smokey Mts.) and staying at Carr’s Northside Cottages, swimming in the pool and watching the kids play in the creek. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Fitzpatrick and the staff at Mercy Hospital of Fairfield. Prayer services will be 9:15 AM Thursday at the Colligan Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Thursday at Sacred Heart Church of Fairfield.
