Kenneth Edward Brewer of McAllen, Texas, and formerly of Butler County, Ohio,
died peacefully in his sleep on November 1, 2023. He was 94 years old.Ken was
born on May 25, 1929, in Hamilton, Ohio, to Orville Edward Brewer and Lillie
Bell (Ward) Brewer. Ken was raised in Butler County and graduated from Seven
Mile High School in 1947.
In April 1948, he married Iris Colleen Barrett of Hamilton, Ohio. The couple
celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this year. Ken attended the University of
Cincinnati and served in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He served as New Miami Village
Clerk and was honored as a Kentucky Colonel.
Ken began a 40-year career with Armco Steel of Middletown, Ohio, beginning in
1947. He rose to become Assistant Manager of Transportation for the West Coast at
the Kansas City works and served in leadership positions on several transportation
boards before retiring.
Ken was an avid fisherman and took advantage whenever he could. For many
years, he made annual trips to Tennessee and in later years enjoyed fishing in
Alaska, throughout Texas, and the Gulf of Mexico. In retirement, he and Iris began
many happy years traveling across the U.S., as well as Canada and Alaska, visiting
family in their motor home and making many new friends along the way. They
began spending winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and settled there in the
early 2000s.
Ken is survived by his wife: Iris; children: Patricia Wilson, Jane Lakeman,
Kenneth Brewer, James (Kathrin) Brewer, Joseph Brewer, Claudia Gutierrez,
Brian Brewer and Susan Brewer; grandchildren: Christine Reeves, Sally Vollner,
Diane Romelli, Adriana Blanton, Luis Gutierrez, Stefan Brewer, Andrew Brewer,
Kendall Brewer and Jahsenta Henry; 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and
nephews.
He is preceded in death by a daughter: Mary; his parents; brothers: Dick
and Ted; sons-in-law: Joseph Wilson and Jose Luis Gutierrez, and grandsons: Randy
Reeves, Eddie Vollner, and Alex Brewer.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Colligan Funeral Home, 437 S. 3rd St., Hamilton on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 10:00 am until time of the Blessing Service at 11:00 am. Burial to follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery.
