Frank L. Heinrich, 89, of Fairfield, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014. He was born in Hamilton on November 1st, 1924 to Frank A. and Gertrude (Schmidt) Heinrich. Graduated from Hamilton Catholic High in 1942 and was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church. Served in WW II, US Army Air Corps in Europe as a Sergeant and received a Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with Seven Bronze Service Stars. He retired as a letter carrier from the Hamilton Post Office in 1980. An avid bowler on several classic bowling leagues, Post Office, American Legion and VFW. After 50 years of bowling in the Post Office League, Gilmore Lanes changed the name to The Frank Heinrich Social League. He also participated in softball, golf, horseshoes and the senior olympics. He especially enjoyed sporting activities with his 5 sons. In 1971, he married Mary (Vance)Wendling. Together they enjoyed travel, gardening, ballroom dancing and Reds baseball. He was Past President of the National Letter Carriers and the Greater Hamilton Bowling Association. Past Commander of the American Legion Post 138 and the VFW Post 1069 where he was very active in both Color Guards. He was also a member of Am-Vets Post 1963, the Moose Lodge and the Monkeys. He leaves behind his wife, Mary; sons, Mark (Pat) of Fairfielf, Doug (Teri), Ken (Diane), Dennis, and Kevin (Brenda) Heinrich all of Hamilton; 2 sisters, Evelyn Zimmers and Thelma (Glenn) Beckett of Hamilton; step-children, Vance Wendling and Melissa Williamson of Fairfield; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Richard, Ralph, Russell and Ronald Heinrich. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday at the Colligan Funeral Home. Burial with military services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
